In Martínez Lacuesta Winery, we had the pleasure of participating in the Rioja Centennial Celebration, the event that brought the official program of the 100th anniversary of the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin to a close, held at the Rioja Culture Center.

This international gathering, held from February 15 to 17, brought together 70 leading wine experts from 20 countries, making the Rioja DOCa the world epicenter of wine for several days. Under the motto “Tribute to a Legacy. Vision for the Future,” the event served to pay tribute to one hundred years of history and, at the same time, project a shared vision for the future of the Designation.

One of the highlights was the gala dinner held at the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, which took place on Monday, February 17. An evening that brought together winemakers, international influencers, specialized press, and industry professionals. The dinner featured five Michelin-starred chefs and a carefully curated selection of wines that represent the prestige and global reach of Rioja.

In this context, La Centenaria 2022 was one of the chosen wines, representing Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta in a closing event steeped in symbolism. This wine was conceived as a tribute to the winery’s history and reflects its commitment to quality, consistency, and respect for the land:

La Centenaria originates from a vineyard planted in 1921 where red and white grape varieties were blended. Today, 100 years later, we continue to respect the viticulture that allowed us to grow then: we harvest and vinify the varieties together, obtaining a natural, elegant, and balanced result.

Participation in this closing event of the centenary celebrations is a source of pride and a reaffirmation of our connection to the legacy of Rioja, and a commitment to continue building a future based on tradition and excellence.
