The prestigious publication also honours the 2012 Family Collection and includes Álvaro Martínez among the 100 most outstanding winemakers internationally.

On its 130th anniversary, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta has achieved historic recognition at the Rioja Masters 2025, the prestigious blind tasting organised in London by Drinks Business magazine and judged exclusively by a panel of Masters of Wine. Martínez Lacuesta’s Hinia Blanco Reserva 2021 was named Best Rioja of 2025 and Grand Master by Drinks Business
.

In addition, Colección Familia Gran Reserva 2012 Red Wine won a Gold Medal, consolidating its position as one of the winery’s oenological gems and a benchmark for great Rioja wines for ageing. Finally, the winery’s oenologist and technical director, Álvaro Martínez, a fifth-generation member of the family, has been included in the prestigious Master Winemaker 100, which recognises the most outstanding oenologists internationally and will be officially presented at Wine Paris 2025.

This recognition places HINIA Blanco Reserva 2021 as the highest-rated wine in the entire tasting, making it the wine that most impressed the international jury. As the organisation itself pointed out: “On a grey, rainy and windy day in London — perfect for tasting great Rioja reds — the wine we liked the most was a white”. An anecdote that reflects the exceptional nature of the award and the quality of this very special and limited wine.

The competition is part of the Drinks Business Global Masters Series, considered one of the most demanding competitions in the world of wine. Thousands of wines participate in each edition, of which less than 10% achieve the coveted Master Medal distinction, reserved for wines scored between 97 and 100 points. The title of Grand Master is awarded only to the highest-rated wine in the entire tasting.

2012 Family Collection: the elegance of time

The 2012 Familia Collection represents the value of time and patience, pillars of Martínez Lacuesta’s philosophy since 1895. Its Gold Medal at the 2025 Rioja Masters recognises not only the quality of this exceptional vintage, but also the validity of a production method based on serenity and respect for classic fine wines.

This international recognition of Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta coincides with its 130th anniversary and reinforces the validity of a philosophy that has accompanied the winery since its foundation: the value of time, patience and the production of classic fine wines that transcend trends.
