La Centenaria 2022 has made its debut with an unexpected surprise: Best New Wine at the Magníficos 2026 awards. This recognition compels us to look back to 1921 and understand why this vineyard continues to have something to say.

2025 is leaving us with some unforgettable moments. One of them is undoubtedly the selection of La Centenaria 2022 as Best New Wine in the Vivir el Vino 2026 Guide, making it part of the MAGNÍFICOS 2026, a selection that highlights only fifteen wines from all over Spain. For us, it has a special meaning: it is the wine’s first vintage and comes just in time for the winery’s 130th anniversary.

La Centenaria comes from a vineyard planted in 1921, very close to our winery and also very close to our own history. There, as was customary a century ago, red and white varieties were mixed in the same vineyard. This approach to viticulture—natural, elegant and focused on balance—is what we have sought to respect from the outset: we harvest and produce the varieties together, just as they did back then.

The production process is minimal and extremely meticulous: only six barrels and just over 1,000 bottles, each one crafted individually, clarified with egg whites, reviving traditional methods that form part of the identity of Haro’s fine wines. The result is a delicate, subtle and precise wine that connects us directly with the history of classic Rioja.

Being part of the MAGNIFICENT 2026 also excites us because of the company we are in. This year, projects of enormous national importance have been recognised:

  • Best Red Wine: Nebro 2022 · Finca Villacreces
  • Best Career: Vintae
  • Best Winery of the Year: Hermanos Sastre
  • Best Vintage White Wine: La Caprichosa 2024 · Palacio de Bornos
  • Mejor Blanco de Guarda: Albariño de Fefiñanes III Año 2022 · Palacio de Fefiñanes
  • Mejor Rosado: Abad Dom Bueno Rosado 2024 · Del Abad
  • Best Value for Money: Apóstata 2020 · Península Vinicultores
  • Best Sparkling Wine: Ars Collecta Gran Reserva 459 2010 · Codorníu
  • Best Fortified Wine: Tío Pepe Cuatro Palmas Saca 2024 · González Byass
  • Best Special Production: Patrick Murphy Bota Cayetana 2021 · Santiago Jordi Wine Company
  • Best New Wine: La Centenaria 2022 · Martínez Lacuesta
  • Diam Innovation and Values: Murviedro

Being among them is a privilege. We share their passion, their rigour and their understanding of wine as a commitment that spans generations. That is why we would like to congratulate all the winners and thank the Vivir el Vino team for the care and attention they put into each edition of this guide.

For us, this recognition is not an end point. It is confirmation that the path we have taken—a more precise look at the vineyard, more refined production methods and the defence of the fine, classic style that has always identified Haro—is a path worth following.

Thank you for joining us in this very special year.
We’re moving forward: the great classics never go out of style.
