For Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta, 2025 is the year in which we celebrate the 130th anniversary of our foundation in 1895. Throughout this century and three decades, we have witnessed the evolution of Rioja, the changes in the world of wine and the challenges that have the challenges that have made us stronger.

From those beginnings in modest premises in Calle de La Vega, with Félix Martínez Lacuesta at the helm, to our current winery in the Ubieta area, we have grown without losing sight of the essentials: respect for the land, quality in every bottle and commitment to our identity.

We have gone through times of transformation, from the consolidation of Rioja as a designation of origin to the expansion of our wines in international markets. We innovated with the production of vermouth in 1937, we brought Rioja to Madrid in 1904 and we are committed to excellence in every generation.

Today, with more than a century of history behind us, we look to the future with the same passion with which we began. 130 years later, we are still evolving, still growing and, above all, still toasting.

Surrounded by family, friends and colleagues

Precisely, last March 6th we celebrated in our winery a small anniversary event with family, friends and colleagues of the sector, in a meeting full of emotion, memories and, of course, wine.

We were accompanied by key figures from the world of wine and our land, such as the president of the Government of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, the president of the DOCa Rioja Control Board, Fernando Ezquerro, the mayoress of Haro, Guadalupe Fernández, and the regional minister of Agriculture, Noemí Manzanos. We were also joined by winemakers and friends such as Miguel Merino, Luis Valentín, Carmen Enciso, Rafael Vivanco, María José López de Heredia, Jorge Muga, Rodolfo Bastida, Santiago Frías, Javier Arizcuren and Agustín Santolaya, among others.

Our general manager, Javier Bañales, opened the event by recalling the efforts of the generations that have made it possible for us to be here today. There were also words of recognition from Fernando Ezquerro, who highlighted the pioneering vision of Félix Martínez Lacuesta, someone who knew how to see the potential of Rioja when it was still being forged as a prestigious appellation.

The mayoress of Haro, Guadalupe Fernández, spoke of the role that Martínez Lacuesta has played in the social and cultural history of the city, assuring that “it is not only a real winery, but one that feels real”. And the president of the Government of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, left us with a reflection on our ability to adapt and overcome: “If Rioja has been able to face wars, crises and historical challenges, there is no doubt that the future will find us stronger than ever”.

It was a day to remember where we came from and to reaffirm where we are going. After 130 years of history, it is clear to us that the best is yet to come. Thanks to all those who have been and are part of our history.
