Wine is history, present and future. And at Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta we are preparing to share our vision in a new meeting of the IV Underground Tastings, a cycle that covers the oenological diversity of Rioja through ten unique sessions.

Organised by NueveCuatroUno and with the support of the Government of La Rioja and the Logroño City Council, the Underground Tastings have established themselves as a space where Rioja wine talks to people over a glass. Over several months, the programme brings together ten wineries that represent different views on wine, from historical projects to new voices with groundbreaking proposals.

Our tasting: a journey through the essence of Martínez Lacuesta

This Wednesday, 26 February, El Calado will be the stage where we will unpack what defines us as a winery. According to Javier Bañales, manager of Martínez Lacuesta, our wines are “precise, clean, with terroir and fruit, all very well integrated”. A declaration of principles that guides each production.

For Bañales, Martínez Lacuesta ‘s identity is built on a solid foundation: “We respect tradition, but always with a forward-looking approach. We are not a winery anchored in the past, but one that understands the legacy as a starting point to continue evolving”. In this tasting, we will explore precisely that balance between the legacy received and the constant search for new expressions.

For the tasting, we have selected those wines that “best reflect what Rioja is, a fine, classic and eternal Rioja. The Martínez Lacuesta style is summed up in these four wines, with which we seek fine, sharp, subtle, finished, rounded and with the concept of time as our best ally. Because it is precisely time that refines and makes these wines eternal thanks to the ageing in barrels but also to the time spent in the bottle. We want it to be a fun and enjoyable tasting, but above all we want it to be an educational journey to learn how wines mature and what is the importance of a classic and fine wine”.

Specifically, the selected wines are Hinia 2015, Colección Familia 2012, Campeador Viura 2023 and Campeador Reserva 2019.

Since our founding in 1895 in Haro, we have combined respect for tradition with constant evolution, marking milestones such as the launch of the first Rioja vermouth in 1937. Today, we continue to explore new paths without losing sight of our essence, that of a “fine, classic and eternal” Rioja.

This meeting will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in our way of understanding wine and discover wines that bear the unmistakable stamp of Martínez Lacuesta. See you on Wednesday at El Calado, as part of the IV Underground Tastings, and we look forward to toasting together!
