Since 1895, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta has been a benchmark in wine production in Haro, a privileged region for its vineyards and winemaking traditions. ‘Félix Martínez Lacuesta was a visionary who knew how to be ahead of his time,’ says Javier Bañales, the winery’s current CEO. With four generations at the helm, this family business has maintained its own style that has endured over the years, adapting to changes without losing its essence.
Classic wines with unique character
Martínez Lacuesta defines himself as ‘wine tuners’. According to Bañales, this means working with precision and care at all stages of production to create elegant and balanced wines. ‘We don’t look for fashions, but for a classic, timeless style that connects with the values of today’s consumer,’ he explains. Its lines include crianza reds, signature wines and its iconic vermouth, all made with grapes from selected vineyards in the Rioja Alta.
Vineyards and sustainability: the soul of the wines
The key to Martínez Lacuesta’s success lies in its environment. ‘We work with vineyards that reflect the fresh landscape of Haro and its slow cycle’, says Bañales. Approximately 50% of the grapes come from our own vineyards, while the rest are grown with trusted winegrowers. In addition, the cellar, which is buried more than 13 metres underground, guarantees a stable temperature and sustainable production, thus preserving quality and the environment.
Unique wine experiences
In addition to production, Martínez Lacuesta is committed to wine tourism. They offer personalised visits that include tastings of historic wines and sensory experiences such as vermouth tasting with food and wine pairing. ‘We want each visit to be unforgettable and to reflect the passion we put into each bottle,’ says Bañales.
A legacy that looks to the future
On the occasion of their 130th anniversary, the wineries are preparing a series of events to celebrate their history and innovations. ‘It is an honour to lead a project with so much history and at the same time a challenge to continue building a legacy that will inspire the next generations’, concludes Javier Bañales.nozcan both classic wines from our winery and new wines, especially white wines, highlighting the great boom we are experiencing in this range of wines.
