2026: A Year of Outstanding International Recognition
September is the month of the harvest—a time to reap the rewards of the work done throughout the year, both in the vineyard and beyond. At Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta, we want to take this moment to look back and take stock.

2026 has been a special year for us; we are incredibly proud of the international accolades and awards we have received—honors for wines that were first presented in late 2025.
From the United States to Asia, we would like to share some of these achievements with you; they energize us as we head into the final stretch of the year.
Wine Enthusiast Praises Our Wines in the US
Wine Enthusiast, a leading publication in the US market, has awarded excellent scores to all our flagship wines throughout 2026 (based on samples tasted in late 2025).

In an initial feature, the magazine recognized twelve of our wines, highlighting two in particular. Our ML Colección Familia Gran Reserva 2012 earned 94 points, while the quartet comprising Hinia Reserva 2012, Hinia Reserva 2014, Hinia Reserva 2015, and the Viura-based Hinia Blanco Reserva 2022 each achieved 93 points. The Campeador range also holds a significant place, scoring 92 points; notably, the Campeador Reserva is recognized as a “Hidden Gem.” Rounding out these ratings are the 2020 and 2022 vintages of La Sucursal and the CUVÉE 2020—all scoring 91 points—with the latter also earning a “Best Buy” designation for its outstanding value for money.
We have also been informed that their upcoming “October 2026 Buying Guide” will feature ratings for new vintages of some of our wines.
In this future edition, six of our winery’s wines have been recognized, including two special distinctions. Our ML Colección Familia Gran Reserva 2015 received 94 points and the “Editor’s Choice” seal, while the trio of Hinia Reserva 2016, Hinia Blanco Reserva 2022, and La Centenaria 2022 all achieved 93 points. They are followed by Campeador Reserva 2020 with 91 points, and CUVÉE 2021, which once again achieved 90 points and a “Best Buy” designation for its outstanding value.
James Suckling highlights the quality of our wines once again
James Suckling—one of the world’s most influential wine critics, particularly in Asian markets where his scores often determine wine choices—has highly rated our range:
- La Centenaria 2024: 96 points
- Hinia Blanco Reserva 2021: 94 points
- Selecto Crianza 2023: 91 points
- Campeador Reserva 2020: 91 points
- Hinia Reserva 2022: 90 points
Five wines, all scoring above 90 points (rated “excellent”), reinforcing our presence in a… …a market increasingly attentive to classic Rioja wines.

We would especially like to highlight the 96-point score awarded to La Centenaria 2024. In the words of Suckling, it “has a lovely aroma with expressive fruit, featuring wild berries alongside notes of thyme, underbrush, and other herbal nuances.” We are deeply grateful for this recognition of a wine crafted “the way it was done before modern technology.”
VINOUS visits Martinez Lacuesta to taste our wines
Joaquín Hidalgo—winemaker and Spanish wine taster for the prestigious New York-based publication *Vinous*—visited our winery to taste and learn about our wines alongside Álvaro Martinez (our winemaker) and Javier Bañales (Director of Martinez Lacuesta).

After tasting a selection of current releases and library vintages, the standout wines were: 94 points for Colección 125 Aniversario Gran Reserva 2010 and Martinez Lacuesta Blanco Gran Reserva 2014; 93 points for the trio of Hinia Reserva 2016, Campeador Viura 2024, and Colección Familia Gran Reserva; and finally, 92 points for Hinia Blanco Reserva 2021.
DECANTER honors our Hinia Blanco Reserva

One of the highest scores of this recent run comes from the UK’s *Decanter*—one of the world’s most respected wine magazines. Their “Rioja Report” is an in-depth analysis focused exclusively on wines from our appellation, compiled by tasters specializing in the region. In their latest report, they awarded 97 points to our Hinia Blanco Reserva 2021—the highest score we have received this year—in addition to the 95 points awarded to Colección Familia Gran Reserva 2012 in their regular coverage.
A year to celebrate
As we are in the midst of the harvest, we at the winery are celebrating the fact that the work put into previous vintages continues to be recognized by the most discerning critics.
Thank you to the entire team that makes this possible, from the vineyard to… vineyard, vintage after vintage.
These results reflect a steadfast approach, …rooted in respect for the classic fine wine of Haro and a constant re-examination of our own legacy.
We continue to refine our wines; we remain Martínez Lacuesta.
