Martínez Lacuesta Colección Familia 2011 is one of those wines that will undoubtedly go down in history.

In his short career, recognition has not been long in coming. In a very short space of time, Colección Familia 2011 has achieved 93 points in the prestigious Peñín Guide 2024, 94 points in the prestigious ABC Wine Guide 2024 and 96 points in the Gourmets Guide 2024. Two high scores, which show a more than warm reception from the specialised critics.

In addition to its high score, ABC says of it: “Colección Familia maintains the line and character of Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta’s Special Reserves. A perfect vintage to achieve the longevity of the great classics, which is now ready to drink but will continue to grow. Notes of black fruit and whip, with elegance and complexity”.

TASTING WITH 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗦 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜́𝗡𝗘𝗭 𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗔

Colección Familia 2011 was previously one of the wines presented at one of the lomejordelvinoderioja.com Tasting Club meetings. On that day, the general manager of Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta, Javier Bañales, said the following about him:

𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗼́𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟭 is elaborated with 𝟳𝟱% 𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, 𝘂𝗻 𝟮𝟬% 𝗱𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝘆 𝘂𝗻 𝟱% 𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘇𝘂𝗲𝗹o. The ageing is between 36 and 40 months in used American oak barrels. 2011 is an excellent vintage in Rioja. It is a fresher, tenser, more vital vintage than 2010. For some people, 2010 was the perfect vintage but I am more of a 2011 wine drinker. It gives me more tension, more layers. The 2010 is sometimes very wrapped up in that point of maturity, there was volume, there was glycerin, there was structure… But the 11 has a lovely nerve.

The nose has a little more tertiary than Hinia. Here there is more clove, more underbrush, that point of tertiary evolution. There is much more complexity. We also have those floral memories and, above all, as is the trademark of the house, the point of cleanliness and its frankness.

In the mouth is when you realise that you are privileged to work in Rioja and I am not a person of compliments. A wine of 11, with a mouth that is a little tannic, there is still nerve and it maintains its tension, its freshness, with this elegance. One of those wines that are never-ending in the mouth.

It is a wine that delves into that finesse, that slenderness. A fine wine like the ones we have always made.
