The landmark dates of an unforgettable year

The milestones that have marked 2023 as an unforgettable year.

28 Nov 2023 |

Any year worth its salt has a list of recognitions and milestones that ultimately contribute to a sense of satisfaction when looking back. 2023 has been a year of consolidation of the changes that were started the previous year and we are beginning to see their fruits.

MARTÍNEZ LACUESTA: CLASSICISM WITH SURNAMES

This is how Alberto Gil described our visit to the lomejordelvinoderioja.com Tasting Club.

A spectacular evening in which we were able to present several of our new products in front of an audience that acted as judges and with very good judgement. A professional start to break the ice of what was to come. It was on 7 June and you have all the information by clicking on the image.

MARTÍNEZ LACUESTA’S HISTORIC TASTING IN LONDON

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta took part in a historic tasting in London on 21 June together with two other Rioja wineries (Marqués de Riscal and Señorío de San Vicente) selected by the Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros.

Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta was represented by two historic wines: the 125 Gran Reserva from 2010 and Martínez Lacuesta Reserva Especial from the excellent 1964 vintage. More info by clicking on the image.

THE PEÑÍN GUIDE GIVES US AN OUTSTANDING RATING

We are very satisfied and happy with the excellent scores obtained by our wines in the more than prestigious Peñín Guide. It seems that, as we like to say, the great classics are always in fashion. We do not make wines with the express idea of seeking recognition, but when it comes it is because the right path is still ahead of us.

This news also anticipated our presence at the XXIII Salón de los Mejores Vinos de España, which was held in Madrid on 13 and 14 November.

MATURITY, FINESSE AND FRESHNESS

Vinum Magazine Für Weinkultur dedicates an extensive report in its German and Austrian edition to Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta, which it defines in three simple words: Maturity, finesse and freshness.

In the article, signed by Nicole Harreisser, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta is depicted as a bastion of tradition and quality in wine production since it was founded in 1895 by Eloy Martínez and his son Félix in Haro. The writer points out that the winery initially had no vineyards of its own and focused its attention on the ageing and maturing of the wine.

THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING A CLASSIC

The magazine Mi Vino dedicated a series of pages to us in an article written by its director Antonio Candelas. De Martínez Lacuesta stated that: “During the second half of the 19th century Haro must have been a cradle of prosperity thanks to a wine-growing sector in full expansion. It was a time when Félix Martínez Lacuesta founded, together with his father, one of the most traditional family wineries in the town of Haro”.

And he added: “The most fascinating thing about Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta is that its history, before being created, was dreamt and I can’t think of anything more beautiful than drinking dreams”.

OLD ROADS, NEW HORIZONS

Planeta Vino, Andrés Proensa’s magazine, has published the launch of our Campeador Viura 2021.

And he values it in a forceful manner: “Martínez Lacuesta breaks new ground with an interesting alternative recovered from the annals of Rioja oenology: the white brisado. Made in red, i.e. with its skins and with a moderate ageing in barrels, it is fortunately far from the so-called orange wines, drinkables of dubious (or not) quality that became fashionable in certain sectors”.

BODEGAS MARTÍNEZ LACUESTA IN NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

National Geographic Travel devoted an extensive report to the most visitable wineries in Haro, including, of course, Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta.

CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF DESIGNATIONS OF ORIGIN

Luis Martínez Lacuesta participated in a round table within the Summer Course of the University of La Rioja ‘Denominations of Origin in the 21st century’ where he left two of the best phrases that were heard:

-Quality first, then price”.

It may be necessary to regulate for a two-speed Rioja.

XXIII HALL OF THE BEST WINES OF SPAIN

Our participation in the XXIII Salón de los Mejores Vinos de España de Peñín, where we had a double representation: Wines and Vermouth.

A large number of visitors to our tables and great satisfaction on our part.

WINES WITH THE NAME OF THE LAND

A crush to rekindle the flame is the title of our appearance in the annual supplement of La Rioja, which on this occasion had the general title Vinos con nombre de Tierra (Wines with the name of the land).
